How do I FTP my files?

NOTE: Prior to installing any FTP software, please contact your account manager for the necessary FTP address and login information.

If you need help transferring files over to your web site, we are going to first assume that you do not have an FTP program or any experience transferring files over, utilizing File Transfer Protocol (FTP).

To start with you are going to have to download an FTP program. We recommend downloading WSFTP_LE from download.com. This section on FTP will provide you help based on WSFTP_LE.

After you have installed the application you should now run it.

After running it click on new and take the following steps: For the profile name you can enter whatever you need to in order to identify this profile.
For the host name/address enter the ftp address provided by your account manager
For the user ID and password enter the information provided by your account manager. Usernames and passwords are CASE SENSITIVE.
Check the box next to "Save Password" if you don't want to manually enter your password in everytime you want to FTP.
Leave the account field and the comment field blank. Click on "Apply" then click "OK" and you should be logged in.

As you can see the window is divided into 2 panels. The panel on the left is your local machine. The panel on the right are the files on your web site server. To move a file from your local hard drive to your web site, on the left panel find the file on your hard drive. You may need to use the 2 dots with an up arrow to move up a directory, or you may need to navigate to a different drive on your machine by scrolling down and finding the appropriate drive letter on the bottom left panel.

After you have found the file you wish to transfer to your web site, highlight it with your mouse. Click on the right direction arrow located in the middle of the image above. This will transfer the highlighted file from your machine to your web site server (It is highly recommended that you transfer HTML files in ASCII format and images in BINARY format - you can choose the method used to transfer the file by selecting the radio buttons on the middle of the screen.

If you wish to transfer a file from your web site to your local machine the same convention is used. Select the file on the right hand panel (your web site server) and this time click the left arrow in the middle of the screen to transfer the file in the other direction to your local machine.

How do I login, I keep receiving an error message when attemptong to FTP?
Double check your username and password, it must be entered exactly as you've been given by your account manager. Also make sure the hostname is correct. (*Note: if your domain hasn't been transferred over to Intertune yet you need to use the temporary IP address in your welcome message. After it has been transferred you should use ftp.yourdomain.com)
